At the center of Belhaven’s liberal arts emphasis is the innovative Worldview Curriculum, which presents history, philosophy, literature, and art as one set of interconnected disciplines.

Through this bold approach to education, students discover the contexts of the Christian worldview and how it relates to other systems of thought throughout history. With it comes the challenge to students to recognize their own worldview and to weigh it against the Christian worldview.

The Arts

As one of 25 institutions in the nation accredited in all four areas of the arts - visual art, music, theater, and dance - Belhaven competes at the highest level in the arts with some of the top schools in the nation. Belhaven is also the only Christian liberal arts college in the country that offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing.

Art

It is rare in Christian higher education to find an institution that invests as strongly in the fine arts as Belhaven College does, and the Visual Arts are no exception. One look at the experienced faculty, the professional - caliber studios and art gallery, and the talent displayed in student pieces will affirm Belhaven's commitment to excellence. Studying this discipline from a biblical standpoint gives students a profound intellectual and technical competency, demonstrating that modern art can still be Christian art without compromising aesthetic integrity.

Dance

Belhaven Dance is unique for its Christian emphasis and reputation for skill, rigor, creativity and refinement. Whether in ballet or modern dance classes, students are challenged and encouraged to excel under the direction of accomplished instructors in the best facilities and state-of-the-art dance studios. Belhaven's Dance department is one of a kind among Christian colleges and universities. All the necessary resources are available for both modern and ballet dancers to allow them to become the best among performers, choreographers and instructors.

Music

Belhaven's Music department is dedicated to shaping and developing students, not just who will create and perform Christian music, but who will honor Christ by having the knowledge, passion and proficiency to thrive at the highest level in whatever area of music they pursue-in composition, performance, ministry, music education or other fields. Whether in churches, schools or the public arena, our music majors will possess the essential technical skills necessary for them to be influential in their discipline and in the world around them.

Theater

The Belhaven Theater department takes seriously the idea of producing well-rounded, employable individuals who have been immersed in all aspects of the theater, both in acting and performance, as well as the whole of the production process. Students are equipped not only to survive in the profession of performing, but to surpass standards in a way that recognizes their God-given talents.

Spencer Awarded
Artist of the Year

Author Elizabeth Spencer graduated Belhaven College in 1942 and went on to write many novels, short stories, non-fiction, fiction, and drama. She has experienced a lifetime of achievement for her many literary contributions and was recently awarded the PEN/Malamud Award for Short Fiction and Governor's Award for Achievement in Literature from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
